"Sometimes it just hurts to be a nurse. Losing a patient doesn’t get easier, and it shouldn’t. It hurts. Even when you saw what was coming, it still feels as though you could have done more. Sometimes it’s difficult to be a nurse, when a colleague loses a patient, and your heart breaks for them. Sometimes it’s emotionally draining to be a nurse, when a trusted coworker stabs you in the back – and you never saw that coming. Sometimes it’s frustrating, that despite the never ending 12 hour shift, you cannot physically do as much as you want to do for your patients. Oftentimes it’s shattering when it dawns on you at 4am what you might have done alternatively. Sometimes your soul aches as you sit and cry with the family who just lost their loved one, and oftentimes it’s worse when you see a family member who is just inexplicably mean to your patient, as you’ve seen too many times how quickly life can be snatched away. Sometimes it’s the mistakes you make that could have (but thankfully didn’t) harm the patient that will haunt you. Oftentimes it’s the apathy of other health care professionals that will tear at your heart. Apathy is the worst of all."

"You want to be happy.
The problem is, you don’t know where to find it.
Or really, if it even exists at all.
That’s the thing about happiness, you know?
It makes a fool out of you.
It tricks you into believing that somewhere out there,
you are destined for something,
destined to become someone,
destined to belong with someone else.
What a joke.
What a fucking joke.
Come on. Wake up.
Happiness is not a destination. Do not chase after it.
Happiness is not the ‘ever-after’ in fairytales. Do not wait for it.
Happiness is not a fixed feeling.
It is transitory, as with all things.
So, listen: when you find yourself smiling,
and feeling light, and soft, and satisfied,
well, you are lucky.
Enjoy it while it lasts.
Enjoy it before the world finds its way to fuck you up again.
That’s how happiness works."

"I think it’s very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not be defined by another person."

"I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art."
